International Visiting Scholars
The International Visiting Scholars series is a cross-cultural initiative designed to promote global understanding and literacy and an international educational experience for faculty, learners, and administrators at Wheelock and beyond.

Ligia Veiga da Cunha, Maria Candida Dantas Peralta, and Flavia da Silva Almeida are three scholars from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ligia is director of the Gigantes School of Street Performers and Stilt Walters. Maria is co-founder and director of the Center of Educational Study and Research, and Flavia is the Center's education director. Together, the three scholars represent diverse forms of education in Brazil.

Dr. Linda Davis is the vice president for Research, Graduate Programmes, and International Relations at The College of The Bahamas. Dr. Davis has served in a variety of roles at The College of The Bahamas, where she has been instrumental in the development of the collaborative Master of Science program offered by Wheelock College. Dr. Davis is conducting research on the ways in which universities interact on an international scale.

Dr. Louis Kushnick is a professor of Race Relations at the University of Manchester, England and Director of the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre. Dr. Kushnick will offer an open lecture to the community focused on the nature, impact, and implications of structural racism for diverse communities within the U.S. and for the functioning of the U.S. political economy.

Dr. Joachim Bröcher is professor of Children's Development, Education, and Socialization at the University of Applied Sciences in Magdeburg-Stendal, Germany. Dr. Bröcher directs the program in Applied Childhood Studies at the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal, and his areas of expertise include special education, art education, and art therapy.

Dr. Martin Okyere Owusu is an associate professor of Theatre Arts at the University of Ghana in Legon near the capital city, Accra. Dr. Owusu is an acclaimed playwright and director who has been a powerful presence in West African theater. He will offer a lecture on the ways in which African theater gives traditional meaning to contemporary society.

Dr. Ed Greene is senior consultant and advisor in the field of child development, early learning and children's media environments, and currently serves as a senior advisor to Cito USA (a subsidiary of Cito, the Netherlands) and its Pyramid Approach to Early Learning. Through his work, he facilitates communication, capacity building, and strategic approaches to program implementation. He also is a professional development consultant with Teachscape, an online and face-to-face company providing staff and professional development through a state-of-the-art platform including video case-based learning resources.

Dr. Rachel Tal has been working as head of English studies and educational projects for the Amal Network of colleges and comprehensive high schools for more than twenty years. The Amal Network operates 56 high schools in the Jewish, Arab, Bedouin, and Druze sectors in Israel. Dr. Tal is an educational leader who has vast experience in creating programs focused on peace building using literacy study as the base for developing relationships between Arab and Jewish students and teachers.
