MSEI Goals
Build a diverse workforce of elementary and early childhood teachers who are skilled and knowledgeable in the areas of mathematics and science.
The MSEI has created new courses and an undergraduate science major as well as revised existing courses to reflect best practices in math and science education. Additionally, the MSEI brings together faculty in ways that foster collaboration and improve the coordination of content and pedagogical approach across the math and science program.
Establish collaborative programs with elementary schools, child care centers, and informal education centers.
Prospective and practicing teachers as well as informal educators are partnering with Wheelock faculty in the pursuit of enhancing math and science instruction in order to ensure all students, particularly those in underserved and minority populations, have access to high-quality math and science instruction
Provide resources, support, and professional development opportunities to pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and community members.
The MSEI designed a Math and Science Education Center, which consists of a physical space on the Wheelock College Boston Campus and online portal, where students, faculty, alumni, practitioners, and community members can come together and access educational and technological resources.
