During this cross-cultural immersion experience, students will experience Oaxacan culture within the context of a service learning project. Participants will work with community organizations serving local children and families while they develop Spanish language skills, conduct participant-observation research, enhance their critical thinking abilities, and gain social studies knowledge.

In addition, participants will visit local villages and markets and investigate the archaeological site of Monte Albán—an ancient Mesoamerican city.

Wheelock College and Colleges of the Fenway students interested in participating in this program must:

  • Submit an application and be admitted
  • Register in Spring 2010 for PRO 260 Mexico Learning in Action (4 credits)
  • Attend all preliminary sessions

Current students will have first priority in the selection process, but Wheelock alumni, faculty, and staff with an interest in studying the Spanish language and Mexican culture may apply as well.

The priority application and deposit deadline with financial aid is October 30, 2009.
