Now in its fifth year, the Wheelock Student Policy Fellows (WSPF) Program offers a unique cross-disciplinary opportunity for students who are inspired to stimulate political change on behalf of children and families. This valuable experience fortifies Wheelock students with the leadership, advocacy and policy skills necessary to work toward improving the lives of children and families at the legislative policy level. The approach of the Fellows Program is to expand students' cultural insight into the political and legislative processes that directly affect the lives of children and families. The goal of the program is to prepare young people to become leaders and advocates who will enact positive, systemic change.

The objective of the seminar is for students to have knowledge of the following:

• Nature and forms of public policy practice
• Forms of public policy
• Policy formulation and processes
• Policy implementation processes
• State legislative processes and relationship to federal legislative processes
• State House and Senate committees and leadership
• Legislative and political strategies
• Policy advocacy processes
• Components of effective leadership
• Selection Process

All applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a matriculated junior or senior undergraduate or graduate student at Wheelock College or Wheelock alumnus/a who has graduated within the past year of the program start date.
2. Possess a strong academic background.
3. Demonstrate an interest in policy development and advocacy.
4. Have the support of their academic advisor.
5. Show how the Fellowship will support their current, as well as their envisioned work.

Applicants must submit the application and attach a current resume. The Fellowship Committee meets to consider applications in the fall.
