President Jackie Jenkins-Scott addressed the Wheelock Community on the passing of Senator Edward M. Kennedy. Here's an excerpt of her letter.

"Senator Kennedy truly exemplified Wheelock College's mission to improve the lives of children and families. He worked closely with members of the Wheelock community on many issues impacting children and families, including improving access and affordability of quality education and health care... During his career, Senator Kennedy authored over 2,500 bills including every significant piece of legislation that impacts children and families - Americans for Disabilities, Title IX, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, S-CHIP for Children's Health, Pell Grants, No Child Left Behind, and many more. He was an unmistakable partisan, and he was the consummate bridge builder - working across party lines to advance the causes of children and families.

We will remember with deep gratitude the many contributions Senator Kennedy made to improve the lives of children and families, as we will the grace, tenacity, and good humor with which he advanced those causes."

"I want to be remembered as someone who helped children, someone who cares for children," he said. "Children need good schools to go to, a place to live, good food to eat. The most important thing for children is to have a good education." ~ Edward M. Kennedy
